As part of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralypic Games, the project named Robby and initiated by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, allowed 150 children to experience the Games through telepresence. Thanks to the use of telepresence robots, the young fans have been allowed to feel this unique atmosphere from the hospital.
Inclusion and sharing : a leitmotiv for Paris 2024
Inclusion was a strong value claimed by Paris 2024 and the Robby Project was a real extension of the will. Telepresence robots, as the BeamPro® deployed by Awabot, has allowed sick children to move around the Olympics and Paralympics sites and meet athletes.
A well managed deployment for an unprecedented experience
The success for this kind of project depends on a meticulous organization. Awabot, with a strong experience acquired during international events such as The F1 Grands Prix or the UEFA Euro 2024, showed once again its expertise by deploying several robots in four Olympics sites.
The hospital staff also played an important role during the implementation. By a strong cooperation with Awabot’s team, they took part by indicating the young patients who were interested and by managing the connexion. Their engagement was total, from the installation to the decorations in the spaces, creating a great place for the children who were in immersion in the Olympic and Paralympic univers.
“A thousand thanks for everything, this experience has brought so much joy to our little patients” Marine Jégu, deputy director of sponsorship at AP-HP.
Magical moments for the kids
Thanks to the Beam® telepresence robots, hospitalized kids has experienced unique moments : selfie in front of the olympic rings placed on the different sites, exploration on the competition sites, incursion near to the warm up pool, encounter with The Phryges and total immersion inside the festive atmosphere of the Games.
In addition to these exclusive activities, the kids had the opportunity to cheer with the athletes after their success inside the Club France. Esteban’s mother, student involved in the TED-i program, told us : “Esteban congratulates Léon Marchand and Florent Manaudou. Thanks to them, he had stars in his eyes. For a bedridden kid, seeing this prowess was a new motivation and gave him hope to be able to walk again, without pain.”
