What do I need to control a Beam telepresence robot?

You just need a computer (MAC OSX 10.7 or Sup Windows 7 or Sup) with a webcam, a microphone, speakers and a good wifi connection.

Is the video encrypted?

Yes, Beam robots maintain session privacy by encrypting all video and audio communications throughout our system using AES-256 and HMAC-SHA1 encryption. Only the Beam app have the ability to decrypt this data.

How do I set up 4G on BeamPro?

Plug a supported 4G modem into the USB port under the rear hatch of the Beam Pro head.  Additionally, any 4G mobile hot-spot can be used.  You may have to change the tier in which the network devices connect to the BeamPro.  To do this please follow these steps:     

  1. Remove the back hatch from the BeamPro head
  2. Plug a USB keyboard into the USB port
  3. Within a couple seconds you should see the Suitable Technologies Beam UI Menu
  4. Select WiFi Options
  5. Next, highlight “Network Options” and hit “Enter” on your keyboard. Look for “Tier used for…” and change the preference to the desired number. If you want to Use a 4G card set the tier to be before the WiFi adapters and after the wired connection.

Can I use my BeamPro or Beam+ outside?

Beam telepresence robots are recommended for indoor use only. Damage that may occur outside may not be covered under warranty.

What are the WiFi requirements for Beam robots?

Your BeamPro or Beam+ is compatible with IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n wifi signals at either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, but 5 Ghz is recommended as it is less prone to electronic and environmental interference.

You’ll need broadband internet service that supports at least 1 Mbps up and down for each beam, but for best results we recommend 3 Mbps up and down. Your current Internet speeds can be monitored on the Call Quality Metrics panel within the Beam app.

How tall of a bump can Beam robots clear?

Beam robots can maneuver over bumps up to 1,5cm tall, although flat surfaces provide the smoothest performance.
